Gastroenterology

Dr. Filiberto Colόn is board-certified in gastroenterology with Mountain Medical Associates. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical School: Houston in Houston, TX. He completed his fellowship at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. 



Steven Crider, MD 

Internal Medicine

Dr. Steven Crider is board-certified in internal medicine with Mountain Medical Associates. He received his medical degree at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN, and completed his residency at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and a fellow in the American College of Physicians. 




Najeeb Ghaussy, MD

Rheumatology

Dr. Najeeb Ghaussy is board-certified in Rheumatology with Mountain Medical Associates.  He received his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). He is a certified Clinical Densitometrist by ISCD.



Jay Grosse, MD

Internal Medicine

Dr. Grosse is board-certified in internal medicine with Mountain Medical Associates.  He received his medical degree at the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH and completed his residency at Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, SC. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. 





John Lafata, DO

Internal Medicine 

Dr. John LaFata received his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and completed his residency at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. LaFata has been on the medical staff of Haywood Regional since 2007 and is in practice with Mountain Medical Associates in Clyde, NC. He was honorably discharged from the US Army with rank of Major. 




Paul Levy, MD

Gastroenterology

Dr. Levy received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania - School of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency at New York University Medical Center – Bellevue Hospital in New York, NY. In addition, Dr. Levy completed a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Boston University Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.  Dr. Levy is expert at treating a broad range of conditions that affect the digestive system and liver.  Specialties include colon cancer screenings, diagnosing liver disease and Crohn’s disease.



Craig Linger, MD

Internal Medicine

Dr. Craig Linger is board-certified in internal medicine with Mountain Medical Associates. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN and completed his residency at the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in Birmingham, AL. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. 




Henry Nathan, MD

Dr. Henry Nathan has been in practice with Mountain Medical Associates since 1983.  He received his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, NY and completed his residency at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC and additionally, a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Chapel Hill. Howard Palay, MD

Neurology

Dr. Howard Palay is a board-certified physician in neurology with Mountain Medical Associates. He received his medical degree at Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH and completed his neurology residency at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology and sleep medicine.

Dr. Ditte Phillips is a physician with Mountain Medical Associates.  She received her medical degree at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA, and completed her residency and fellowship at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. 





Kate Queen, MD

Rheumatology

Dr. Kate Queen is board-certified in rheumatology and internal medicine with Mountain Medical Associates. She received her medical degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC and completed her residency at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.  She completed her fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She maintains certification in clinical densitometry though the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD). She received the Distinguished Medical Alumna Award from UNC- Chapel Hill School of Medicine, April 2016; and has been recognized by her peers for Best Doctors in America Designation 2001-2017. 



Michael Vavra, MD

Neurology

Dr. Michael Vavra is board-certified physician in neurology with Mountain Medical Associates. He received his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, and completed his neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. 




Megan Hartley, FNP is a nurse practitioner who is Board Certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  
She obtained her BSN and MSN in Nursing from Western Carolina University.
